Spotlight Member of the Month!

Sister Ivy Griffin is being Highlighted because she has demonstrated what God will do with someone that will not quit. God promised to always be with us and when our dreams coincide with His will for our lives, the results are fantastic as you read the following testimony of our person in the Highlight Zone. Here is her story.What a Journey!I have been blessed to receive the Freedom Ministries Educational Scholarship for the past few years and it has been a true blessing to me to help buy books and supplies for college. I am a first generation college student and find myself enjoying this educational journey. When I started this journey I did not realize how it would impact my life and the joy that you have when you complete a class, a semester, a degree. What a rush of accomplishment, love and relief.When I first entered college in 1987 I had a goal but not a plan at the time. That journey ended early in 1988 when I had my first baby. I was young, struggling and was unable to pay for anything. I have had many jobs and interests after this but not totally satisfied in what I was doing. I started college in August 2003 again at Nova Southeastern University with the mind set to complete my Bachelor degree in Exceptional Education, become a teacher and make a difference in kids lives. When I finished those first four years it was a feeling of self accomplishment, that finally I did it! Before I could graduate, I was on the road of what is next? That summer I began my Masters program in Management and Administration I Education which I completed the following year. I continued my educational pursuit resulting with a Specialist Degree in Reading that was completed June 2011. I am currently pursuing my Certification in Pre-K Varying Exceptionalities and plan to finish with a Doctorate in Education. Only God could have ordered such a plan for my life. During all this time I was a wife, mother, daughter, grandma, employee, committed church and community member and whatever else. It wasnt easy but I believe it will be all worth it. Nothing comes without a sacrifice! I was unaware of how much a sacrifice at the time, but God! Thanks to my husband, children, family, friends, church family and most of all God for allowing me this journey that I am still pursuing.Ivy Griffin

HOW WE GOT OVER

Dr. Edith Irby Jones* The first African-American student to attend the University of Arkansas School of Medicine - nine years before the Little Rock Nine * The first woman president of the National Medical Association. * Born in 1927 to Mattie Buice Irby, a maid, and Robert Irby, a farmer, Irby's family lacked proper medical care because it wasn’t available to the black community. Her sister died of typhoid fever at age 12. Even Irby would suffer severe pain from rheumatic fever at seven years old, and somehow, she recovered from the illness. * Her sister’s death served as motivation for Irby to study medicine in Arkansas. * Edith Irby Jones, she gained degrees in chemistry, biology and physics. * While attending school, she wasn’t allowed to use the same dining, lodging or bathrooms as white students. * After getting her bachelor’s, Jones attended the University of Arkansas School of Medicine as the first black student and the first black person to attend medical school in the south. * During her residency in Houston at Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospital, she was segregated with limited patient rosters. * She finished the last three months of her residency at Freedman’s Hospital in Washington D.C. before opening Mercy Hospital with other black physicians. * In 1985, Jones became the first black female president of the National Medical Association * Opened her own clinics in both Haiti and Mexico. * She also is a charter member of Physicians for Human Rights, which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997.

Thank you for stopping by to visit with us at Freedom Ministries Church where we endeavor to walk in the light of Gods Goodness and His Grace.

We invite you to join us as we explore the greatness of His being and how it relates to us as family, single men and women, teenagers, etc. Our desire is to teach the Word of God and to demonstrate that love in word and in deed. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we believe that we are connected one to another because we are the family of God. We want to know Jesus Christ personally so that He might reveal His will to us. He wants to bless us and use us to bring many souls into the Kingdom of God.

We believe that the bible is a book of instruction from God that tells us how to live life that is pleasing to God, the Father and to cause us to understand that He did not leave us to try to live this life by ourselves. He has given us the Holy Ghost to lead and guide us into all truth. He has proven His word to us time and time again; He will never leave or forsake us.

PASTOR FILMORE Pastor Freddie & Minister Caroll FilmoreFreddie Filmore, Sr. is founding Pastor of Freedom Ministries Church, Inc. since 1983. Freedom Ministries Church started as a bible study, moved twice before God spoke to Pastor Filmore to build an edifice and to pay as you go. The building project started in March 1986 and was completed in March of 1989. It was done Gods way. We have another project that I believe that God gave, the Freddie Filmore, Jr. Memorial Life Center. The Center will be used to be a blessing to the young and old of the South Apopka community and surrounding area. Pastor Filmore has been blessed to be on television on Channel 55, SkyAngel covering the United States and Gospel Channel Europe broadcasting from Reykjavik, Iceland that covers 80 nations including Northern Africa, Middle East, Scandinavia and elsewhere with the good news of Jesus Christ.Minister Eva C. Filmore is the co-founder of Freedom Ministries Church and has witnessed many changes to the core foundation of the ministry. She and Pastor Filmore are the parents of 4 children, Phyllis Filmore Girley, Tonja Filmore, Freddie Filmore, Jr.(deceased), and Angela Filmore Thomas. We presently have 15 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Our prayer is that all will come to know Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. She is on the ministerial staff of Freedom Ministries. She travels internationally with her husband to England and Iceland for the past 15 years in response to A Call To Freedom television ministry. As of July 2011, they have been married for 51 years. She also serves as the churchs Notary Public.Freedom MinistriesFreedom Ministries started as God spoke to Pastor Filmore, along with his wife, Minister Eva C. Filmore, to start a bible study to help people understand what God is saying in His Word, the Holy Scripture. As of June 26, 2011, my wife and I have been married 51 years. To that union were born 4 children, 15 grandchildren and ? great-grandchildren. Freedom Ministries Church was incorporated in March 1983 and God has blessed us tremendously. The present edifice took just under 3 years to complete and with an average of 75 people, about 23 being adults, during the construction phase. God spoke to build it debt free. So in March 1989 we did it Gods way, Debt-Free. My wife joins me on the ministerial staff, along with other couples that God is using mightily in proclaiming the Word of God. We have a project underway, as the funds become available, the Freddie Filmore, Jr. Memorial Life Center where the ministry will be expanded to service the South Apopka Community and beyond. We also have a television ministry that covers 80 nations through Gospel Channel Europe. My wife and I minister in Iceland approximately 2 weeks out of the year and this year marks the 15th year that we have been there. It is exciting to witness what God is doing with such a small group of Believers in Jesus Christ. God called our congregation a young and eager flock and we simply believe the voice of God as He speaks to us. We have witnessed signs and miracles in our midst. Yet in all that God is doing, He is allowing us to remain grounded on the Word of God. We invite you to come and join us as we celebrate Jesus. We recognize that we could not do this alone; so God has given us able-bodied ministers and leaders to accomplish this task in the form of Minister Melvin and Jean Birdsong, Ministers Paul and Olivian Brown, Pastor Jerry and Phyllis Girley, Sister Florence Franklin, Deacon King and Gail Jenkins, Cedric and Angie Thomas and a myriad of support staff.

Girleys

Minister Jerry & Phyllis Girley

Pastor Jerry Girley, a former Pastor of Zion Community Church of Ocoee, joined with his wife and family while studying for the Florida Bar. He serves as legal counsel for Freedom Ministries Church and Freedom Outreach Center. Pastor Girley also is on the ministerial staff and serves as our Adult Sunday School Teacher. He also joins the teaching staff to cover The Divine Journey, How I Got Over, which is a weekly in-depth coverage of Gods dealing with People of Color, their struggles and accomplishments.

Sister Phyllis Girley serves as Office Manager for the two locations of The Girley Law Firm in Orlando, Florida and she functions as Administrative Assistant for Freedom Ministries Church, Scholarship Chairman, Assistant Sunday School Secretary, and Children's Church and is on the Praise and Worship Team. She and Pastor Girley have 2 children. As of July 2011, they have been married for 30 years.

Minister Paul and Minister Olivian Brown

Minister Paul M. Brown is co-owner of Copier Plus of Central Florida and serves as our Music Minister and works with our Praise and Worship Singers, Sunday School Superintendent, one of our principle teachers of The Divine Journey, How I Got Over, and is on our ministerial staff.

Minister Olivian Peterson-Brown presently works as an Auditor for Institute of Internal Auditors and serves in Freedom Ministries Church on the ministerial staff, one of the principle teachers of The Divine Journey, How I Got Over, She and Minister Paul have been married for 19 years as of July 2011 and they have 7 children, 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Minister Libby is the author of Single Women In Ministry (SWIM).

Kings

Deacon King & Sister Gail Jenkins

Deacon King Jenkins, retired from Central Garden and Pet Company, serves as the chairman of our Deacon Board, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, and Assistant Adult Sunday School Teacher.

Sister Gail Jenkins, presently employed by Orange County Public School as Registrar at Ocoee Middle School and serves as Church Secretary for Freedom Ministries Church and Assistant Secretary for Freedom Outreach Center. She and Deacon King have been married for 44 years as of July 2011; have 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Birdsongs

Minister Melvin & Sister Jean Birdsong

Minister Melvin L. Birdsong is owner of MLB Production Catering/Painting/Lawn Business and yet serves as Pastor Aid and person in charge during the Pastors absence. He is also on the ministerial staff and serves as the churchs Notary Public. Melvin is a businessman, owner of Melvin L. Birdsong MLB Services LLC.

Sister Zenobia Jean Birdsong is employed as Administrative Functional Support forby Siemens Energy, Inc. and serves as Editor for Let Freedom Ring, a monthly publication of Freedom Ministries Church. She also serves as our Teacher for Computer Learning Skills available to the church and to the public. Sister Jean supplies input for the update of our A Call To Freedom website. She and Minister Birdsong have been married for 30 years and have 3 children and 2 grandchildren.

Franklin

Sister Florence Franklin

Florence Franklin is the Senior Assistant for Entertainment Production at Universal Studios of Florida and functions as the Finance Chairman for Freedom Ministries Church. She has the fiduciary responsibilities for all church functions. She has 3 children and 11 great grandchildren.

Thomas

Brother Cedric & Sister Angie Thomas

Brother Cedric Thomas is the owner of Thomas & Thomas Contracting and serves a Chief Engineer of our Audio/Video Department, preparing CD's and DVDs for television broadcasting locally and internationally.

Sister Angie Filmore Thomas is presently employed as a Case Manager for The Girley Law Firm and is serving as Director of Children's Church, Praise and Worship Leader, Technical Coordinator for our new website working in conjunction with Sister Jean Birdsong for a smooth transition. She is coordinator of our Special Events along with other selected members of Freedom Ministries Church. She is also handles our social media. She and Cedric have been married for 9 years and have 5 children.

Freddie Filmore Life Center We are in the preliminary planning phase for the building of the Freddie Filmore, Jr. Memorial Life Center that will be built entirely on the existing campus of Freedom Ministries Church, Inc. at 1348 Old Apopka Road in Apopka, Florida 32703.The center will serve as a resource for the entire South Apopka community. It will provide outstanding recreational and educational activities for all ages and will also serve as a meeting place for various community events such as weddings, conferences, etc. The original plans for the Life Center included provisions for a basketball court, volley ball, fitness center, full kitchen, several computer rooms, offices and much more. With the passing of our son, Freddie Filmore, Jr. in 2007, we chose to apply his name as a memorial because of the legacy left by him relative to the impact that he made upon the children in the South Apopka and surrounding areas. Because of his impact, Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School under the Principalship of Mr. Jackie Massey, has established a Freddie Filmore, Jr. Mentoring Program designed to help the young people and to engage the older folks to be a part of the solution relative to the academicgrowth of our children. This facility will be one that promote Christian values in both word and deed but will be available to all that choose to come and abide by the rules. We will have space for tutelage relative to businesses and other endeavors. We are here to serve and to make a positive drug-free impact upon this community and surrounding areas.
