What Are You Thinking?

And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter.  Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right.  Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable.  Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (Philippians 4:8 NLT)

What kind of thoughts are you allowing to run through your mind all day?  What negative thoughts do you replay in your mind over and over again?  Our mind is truly a battleground because the things we think are formed into actions.  Therefore, if you constantly think about how terrible your life is, how unhappy you are on your job, how inadequate you feel, etc. they will come alive in your life.  Because you allow these things to bombard your mind, it's no wonder that you have no joy and no peace.  It's no wonder you have difficulty moving forward and seeing the wonderful things God is doing in your life.  Your mind is too crowded with negative and defeating thoughts.  So how do you overcome these thoughts?  How do you win the battle in your mind?  Paul gives us the answer in Philippians 4:8.  He tells us "fix" our thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable.  When the negative thoughts come, force your mind to think on positive things.  Even though you may feel like so much is going wrong in your life, there are a lot of things that's going right.  Start looking for and taming your mind to think on those good things.  Think about the gifts God has given you and how many people you can touch with your gifts.  Think about the wonderful spouse that God has blessed you with.  A spouse that's understanding, loving, gentle, and kind.  Think about how healthy and well-behaved your children are.  Think about the opportunities for advancement on your job.  Praise God for the fact that you still have a job.  For every negative thought that comes, there is a positive thought to counter it.  You don't have to allow your mind and emotions to control you.  You can "fix" your thoughts to think on Godly things.  I guarantee that when you take control of your thoughts, you will experience the brightening of your spirit.  The gloom that was filled you will be replaced with peace and joy.  But you have to do the work and take control.  God has given you the power to overcome your negative mind, now you just have to use it.
